Fractions of Sevenths

August 23, 2008

“There is an interesting pattern with the fractions of sevenths (1/7th, 2/7th, 3/7th, 4/7th, 5/7th, 6/7th.). First, there are only 6 digits that are used in these fractions, and they repeat. So, for example, 1/7th is equal to .142857142857142857….(it keeps going). but here’’s the cool part - to get 2/7th, you just find the next biggest number in that pattern and start there: .285714285714285714….etc. It works all the way up - 3/7th is 428571….., 4/7th is 571428….., 5/7th is 714285…… and 6/7th is 857142….. The second interesting part is that the 6 numbers used form an interesting pattern with the number 7. if you break them into groups of 2, you get 14 28 57. If you look closely, you”ll see that 7 times 2 is 14. 14 times 2 is 28, and 28 times 2 plus 1 is 57. Ok, not perfect, but interesting nonetheles.”
